MACC's Azam Baki breaks silence, will take legal action
FARAH SHAZWANI ALIPUTRAJAYA - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki will take legal action to those who tarnish not only his reputation but also the commission.
He said stern action was taken to ensure baseless allegations such as what is happening now does not occur in the future.
"Indeed, there are efforts by certain people with personal interests or have an agenda against MACC by taking the opportunity to continue to destroy the public's trust in MACC.
"They are making this comission the target of repeated attacks.
"“After seeking legal advice, I have decided to take legal action against them," he said during a special press conference at the MACC headquarters today.
The special press conference was held to respond to allegations of alleged misconduct involving senior officials in the commission.
Commenting further, Azam said those involved have been identified and claimed that they were used by certain parties to put pressure on MACC.
"I understand the community's concern on the latest issues involving the MACC to the point where our contribution and success in preventing corruption in the country, both in operations, prevention and community education, has been totally drowned out and clouded by these allegations.
"We at the MACC are working hard to uphold the trust given to us by the people. I am aware that this is one of the challenges faced by nearly all MACC chief commissioners.
"I promise to carry out my duties and responsibilities entrusted to me during my tenure as MACC chief commissioner, to lead the commission to become a competent body, professional in action and full of integrity," he said.
