Monsoonal surge is expected to end, weather in Peninsula Malaysia will improve on Wednesday

SHAH ALAM - The monsoonal surge that hits the country is expected to end tomorrow (Jan 5), said MetMalaysia.

In a statement on Twitter today, MetMalaysia informed that, the weather in the Peninsular will be improving starting Wednesday.

“However, the formation of active rain clouds in the South China Sea and Sulu Ocean can potentially cause incessant rain in Sabah, East Coast and South Peninsula.

“Meanwhile, other places are expected to experience thunderstorms in the evening until night.

“Other than that, the incessant rain warning at bad and alert level in Pahang, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Terengganu and Sabah have been updated as of Tuesday.

“The warning of strong rush of winds and sea turbulence for the first, second and third category have been issued for the East Coast of Peninsula including east Johor, Sarawak and Sabah are expected to continue until Tuesday,” the statement explained.

Meanwhile, a total of 28 regions in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Sabah are still affected by the floods with 14,216 victims still sheltering at 182 temporary evacuation centers (PPS).

The National Agency of Disaster Management (Nadma) in the latest update said, a total of 803 PPS were closed with 119,380 victims have returned to their houses.

As of 4pm today, the nationwide operations involve 15,075 personnels using 2,242 combined assets of various agencies.

“The Social Welfare Department (JKM) have distributed 532,712 packs of packaged foods including other necessities to the victims who are affected by the floods,” the statement mentioned.

The Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG) also reported that the increase of six locations of landslide incidents were recorded involving Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Sabah, as of 10 am today - Awani.
