Malaysia has been hit with floods affecting six states in the country, leaving flood victims concerned for their property damage and insurance coverage.

Crisis Management Analyst Nordin Abdullah said this was the time for flood victims to consult with their insurance company on their insurance coverage.

“For the flood victims who does have insurance, now is the time for you to deal with the insurance company.

“Do it as quickly as you can,” he told Sinar Daily.

He added that the government should be offering assistance in terms of financial support to those affected.

Financial coach Ieza Yusof provided a step-to-step process on how to claim insurance for vehicles affected by the floods.

She said the vehicles needed to be covered for perils.

The first step, she said, was not to start the engine but instead take photographs and state down details of the location, time and date of the flooding.

She said once the floods has resided, do not start the engine but instead call the insurance’s towing service and bring it to the police station to lodge a report.

“Once the police report is complete, you can choose to send it to any insurance workshop panel to do claims. If you have an agent, call them immediately,” she said.
