SHAH ALAM - A dispute over a begging location between two men ended in tragedy when one of them was fatally stabbed in front of a bank in Section 18 here on Thursday.
Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred around 12 noon and involved the victim, a 40-year-old disabled man who frequently begged at the location.
"Investigations found that the incident stemmed from a dispute over the begging territory between the victim and the suspect, who is also a beggar.
"The suspect, a 28-year-old man, allegedly wanted to beg at the same spot, which led to an argument between the two,” he said on Thursday.
He added that the suspect then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the chest.
"The victim collapsed, covered in blood and was confirmed dead at the scene.
"Acting on information, the suspect was successfully apprehended at about 12:30pm at the same location,” he said.
Iqbal said investigations revealed that the suspect had nine prior criminal records.
"Urine tests showed that the suspect tested negative for drugs. The victim’s body was taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) for a post-mortem,” he said.
Iqbal added that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Assistant Superintendent Muhammad Abd Hafiz Sariee, at 014-8905051,” he added.
