When asked about the education gap between urban and rural areas, he said location should not be seen as a barrier to knowledge.

TAPAH - Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Ayer Kuning state by-election, Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, has named education as a top priority in his efforts to shape a brighter future for the constituency’s younger generation.

He said education plays a crucial role in transforming mindsets and opening doors to social and economic development.

"Education changes our mindset, and that leads to improvements in our quality of life. That’s why it’s a top priority for us (BN) to help produce a great generation,” he told reporters after attending the ‘Taqarrub Perak Sejahtera 2030’ programme at Kampung Tersusun Batu 4 here today.

When asked about the education gap between urban and rural areas, he said location should not be seen as a barrier to knowledge.

"Being in a rural area doesn’t mean there are no smart people. We believe change is possible, and people who are fast and eager to learn will gain a lot of knowledge,” said Yusri, a former educator.

Yusri said plans to enhance educational standards in Ayer Kuning would be tailored to local needs and executed as effectively as possible.

Prior to this, he had expressed his determination to continue the initiatives of the late Ayer Kuning assemblyman, Ishsam Shahruddin, particularly in improving the level of education in the area.

The by-election is being held following Ishsam’s death on Feb 22.

The Election Commission has set polling for April 26, with early voting on April 22.

The seat will see a three-way contest between Yusri (BN), Abd Muhaimin Malek (Perikatan Nasional) and Bawani KS (Parti Sosialis Malaysia). - BERNAMA
