SHAH ALAM – While cinemas overseas, particularly in the United States (US) face chaotic disruptions following the release of "A Minecraft Movie," Malaysian theatres have remained largely unaffected by the trend.

The film’s global release has sparked rowdy behaviours in some countries, with reports of unruly audiences, food fights, vandalism and even police intervention.

It noted that while the Minecraft fan base, especially younger viewers, has been enthusiastic, reactions have remained good-natured, limited to cheers and applause during iconic scenes.

"At TGV, we embrace these joyful and expressive moments. Seeing our audiences fully engaging and enjoying themselves is exactly what makes the cinema experience so special.

Ahead of the release, TGV said it anticipated the film’s popularity among children and teens, ensuring adequate staffing and organising pre-screening activities to keep young audiences entertained.

"It’s all part of creating a fun and memorable family experience at the cinema, where both children and parents can enjoy quality time together," it said.

Earlier, another local cinema chain Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) confirmed that "Minecraft: The Movie," has been screening in local theatres for a week and there have been no reports of disruptive behaviour similar to the incidents recently seen in cinemas across the US.

Despite the disorder in the US, the movie has proven a box office juggernaut, grossing over USD $163 million on its opening weekend in the US alone.

Its broad appeal, particularly among children and teenagers has made it a prime target for social media antics that were now spilling over into real-world disruptions.
