Veteran actress Noor Azizah passes away

Throughout her artistic career, Azizah was remembered for her role in the film Enam Jahanam, directed by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee in 1969, which catapulted her name into the spotlight of the Malay film scene.

SHAH ALAM - The local film industry mourns the loss of another veteran star, as the highly respected actress, Datin Noor Azizah Azizul Hassan, passed away early this morning at the age of 79.

According to close sources, the late actress drew her final breath at her residence in Kampung Sungai Paloh, Ipoh, at about 3am due to breathing difficulties.

The sad news was confirmed by her daughter, Khairena, to veteran entertainment journalist Muzlina Abu Bakar, who was also a close friend of the late actress.

Throughout her artistic career, Azizah was remembered for her role in the film Enam Jahanam, directed by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee in 1969, which catapulted her name into the spotlight of the Malay film scene.

Her involvement in the industry happened by chance when she visited the Jalan Ampas Studio in Singapore. Her beauty and charisma at the time caught the attention of the late legendary artist Datuk Ahmad Mahmud, who then offered her a supporting role in the film Dayang Senandong (1965).

Her talent was not limited to the local scene — she once received an offer to star in the Indonesian film Malin Kundang (1971), alongside popular actor Rano Karno.

Interestingly, in 1977, she also had the opportunity to star in an international production, appearing in the Australian television series Bailey Bird, playing the role of Dr Susan Lim.

The passing of Noor Azizah is a tremendous loss to the local arts scene, which once witnessed her talent, beauty, and dedication as a golden-generation actress. – AWANI
