SHAH ALAM - Indonesian content creator Ben Sumadiwiria, known by his persona Bobby Saputra, recently teamed up with two Malaysian comedy heavyweights, Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng) and Dr Jason Leong, for a hilarious video that poked fun at one of Malaysia's most infamous political scandals.
Together, they added a humorous twist to the disappearance of fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, who had been charged in Malaysia and the United States over allegations of orchestrating the theft of billions of dollars from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
While Bobby was the only Indonesian-created persona in the video, Jason convincingly impersonated the notorious Jho Low, benefitting from his striking resemblance to the fugitive.
The video showed the trio "partying together," with Uncle Roger and Bobby repeatedly reminding the audience that they were with the "biggest corruption case in the world."
"We partied with the guy who stole USD4.5 billion from the Malaysian government, which was the biggest corruption case in the world," Ben narrated in the video, as they enjoyed their time with "Jho Low".
In the video, they escorted Jason (as Jho Low) to a karaoke session at the Red Box in Room 27, where they scripted a funny moment involving a pedestrian who recognised "Jho Low" and yelled at him to return his yacht, playfully portraying him as a 'thief.'
Inside the karaoke room, Ben stated, "We had some fun, but in reality, this guy was a jerk."
Jason, as Jho Low, impersonated watching Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack in Titanic on the karaoke screen, pretending to sing along to Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On."
At one point, he pointed to DiCaprio and said, "He kissed me exactly like that," implying Jho Low's widespread influence, both nationally and internationally, as a former financier.
Uncle Roger and Bobby left the karaoke room, quipping that they planned to call the police and report "Jho Low's" whereabouts.
"Stick him with the bill, call the cops, "Jho Low" is at Red Box Room 27, screw that guy!" they said.
Commenting on the video, Instagram user @dimsimlim posted: "Jho Low from Temu," followed by a laughing emoji.
Some viewers even mistook Jason for the real Jho Low, questioning why he had not been captured and put behind bars.
Jho Low, who was charged with orchestrating the 1MDB embezzlement scandal, remained elusive, with reports suggesting he might be in Myanmar.
Senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah stated that during former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's 1MDB trial, former 1MDB general counsel Jasmine Loo testified that Jho Low could be in Myanmar.
Najib is currently serving prison sentence while waiting for the approval of the royal addendum for him to serve house arrest until expected release around Aug 23, 2028.
