SHAH ALAM - A letter from the Pahang palace confirming the existence of a royal addendum, as revealed by Datuk Seri Najib Razak's lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah at the Court of Appeal, might be discussed during Umno's Supreme Council meeting this Friday.

However, Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said there was no need for Umno to hold a special meeting to discuss the party's position in the unity government.

"There is no need for a special meeting. Coincidentally, Umno's monthly Supreme Council meeting is on Friday.

"Umno has already decided to remain part of the Madani Government until the 16th General Election (GE16). So, there is no need to discuss the issue," he told Sinar.

He said this when asked to comment about Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who raised questions about the party's position in the unity government following the Pahang Sultan's confirmation of the existence of the royal addendum involving Najib.

Meanwhile, Umno Malaysia Veterans chairman Datuk Othman Desa expressed a similar view, stating that the Supreme Council meetings, held monthly, usually covered a variety of issues and current political developments.

Othman also expressed surprise at the presence of many opposition leaders at the "Himpunan Solidariti Najib" solidarity gathering in Putrajaya on Monday.

"What is happening now is unexpected, where many leaders from Pas and Bersatu were present to show support for Najib.

"In the past, we knew that Pas and Bersatu not only didn’t support Najib, but they also criticised him with various accusations.

"So, I see their current support as more of a pretence, as each of them seeks to gain political advantage," he said.
