SHAH ALAM - Police believe the ecstasy drug suspected to have killed four party-goers at the Pinkfish Countdown concert in Sunway Lagoon, Subang Jaya, was purchased at the venue.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said police are investigating how the drugs could be brought into the venue when the Dog Detection Unit (K9) was stationed at all entrances.
"Preliminary investigations found that some of the concert-goers bought the ecstasy pills during the concert for RM50 per pill, while some bought them outside.
"We also found that drug peddlers were selling the ecstasy pills in the concert to visitors, and police are investigating those involved in the sale," he told reporters here today.
He said the victims who took ecstasy pills also drank alcohol during the concert, creating a deadly cocktail.
Hussein also clarified that policemen were only assigned to monitor and maintain peace outside the venue.
"Matters related to the safety of visitors inside the premises or the building are under the responsibility of the organisers and it is understood that they used auxiliary police for that purpose," he said.
Yesterday, Hussein was reported to have said that four victims who died after attending the concert were suspected to have consumed ecstasy.
The victims, including two women, were believed to be Malaysian citizens aged between 20 and 40.
The concert organiser then issued a statement saying that they have taken various security measures, such as the presence of more than 100 police officers, stationing trained security personnel, and K9 units at all entrances. - BERNAMA
