JAKARTA - A 63-year-old woman was killed in her home on Indonesia's Sumatra island on Monday after being attacked by a herd of wild elephants, according to local media, reported German news agency (DPA).
The incident occurred before dawn in Lampung province near the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, a Unesco-listed site known for its rich biodiversity, the state-run Antara news agency reported.
Footage shared widely on social media appears to show the woman's house destroyed by the elephants after they reportedly ventured into the village from the surrounding protected forest.
The incident highlights the growing conflict between human settlements and wildlife, particularly in regions where encroaching human activities threaten the natural habitats of protected species.
