LUMUT - A 15-month-old baby boy who died along with his mother in a road accident at Kilometre 212.3 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) southbound early Thursday morning was confirmed to have been ejected from the vehicle before being struck by another unidentified vehicle.
The incident, which occurred at about 5am, involved a family of four travelling in a Perodua Kelisa. The victims, Muhammad Iman Irfan Mohammad Shuqur and his mother, Nor Fadhilah Mohd Azlan, 24, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The father, Mohammad Shuqur Ahmad, 24, who was driving the car and another son, Muhammad Alif Sufi, 3, survived the accident.
Manjung District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman said investigations revealed that the car carrying the family of four is believed to have lost control.
"This caused the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into the road divider before overturning in the middle of the road, resulting in the victim being ejected.
"Subsequently, another unidentified vehicle that could not stop in time hit the child, while a Proton Wira driven by a 27-year-old man also collided with the Perodua Kelisa,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police are urging anyone with information to assist the investigation by contacting Inspector Nur Syafiqah Baharudin at 012-6375962 or 05-6899072.
