KUALA KRAI – A mother and her son were shocked when a 4.2-meter-long king cobra appeared while they were reciting the Quran in the living room of their house in Kampung Bukit Chengal, Batu Jong here on Sunday.
In the 3.45pm incident Siti Nur Hafizah Hasbullah, 28, was teaching her five-year-old son, Khalis Umar Mohd Saifullah, how to recite the Quran.
Khalis alerted his mother after spotting a snake slithering across the front door.
The father, Mohd Saifullah Mat Nazi, 32, said the reptile was later seen entering the bushes next to the house.
"I was at work when my wife called me around 3.50pm to inform me about the snake,"
"I rushed home and tried to locate the snake. I found it near the side of the house and attempted to drive it away, but it had already entered the living room," he said when contacted by Sinar on Monday.
Saifullah, a school gardener, immediately closed the front door and evacuated his wife and three children from the house.
He then contacted the Guchil Volunteer Fire and Rescue Team for assistance in capturing the snake.
He said the 11-kilogram King Cobra was successfully caught and this was the second time a snake had entered their home.
Meanwhile, Guchil Volunteer Fire and Rescue Team chief Hamdan Mahadi said they received the call around 4.15pm and four team members were sent to the location.
"We took 37 minutes to catch the king cobra, which was hiding behind the sofa in the living room.
"The reptile will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further action," he added.
