SHAH ALAM – Social media personality and renowned entrepreneur Khairul Aming shared that he had been discharged from the hospital after recovering from an illness.
In an Instagram Story post, Khairul Aming revealed that he had contracted an infection caused by the E. coli bacteria while participating in flood relief efforts the previous week.
"Just got discharged from the hospital. It turns out I contracted an E. coli infection during the flood relief mission last week.
"I had severe diarrhea for five days nonstop, which left me exhausted and dehydrated. Alhamdulillah, I’m better now and can resume work as usual," he said.
Khairul Aming was rushed to the hospital after returning from the 'Misi Bantuan Orang Baik' in Kelantan a few days earlier.
He had led the team and worked tirelessly for about a week to assist flood victims.
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a type of bacteria commonly found in the intestines of healthy humans and animals.
While most strains of E. coli are harmless or cause mild diarrhea, some, such as E. coli O157:H7, can lead to severe abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting.
The most common sources of E. coli infection are contaminated water and food, as well as person-to-person transmission, especially when infected individuals, including adults and children, fail to wash their hands properly.
Symptoms of E. coli O157:H7 infection typically begin three to four days after exposure but can occur as early as one day.
