"Call me naive, but that’s the Malaysia I truly believe in and will die fighting for,” he said in his post.

Syed Saddiq added that he looked forward to clearing his name in court, emphasising that no one, regardless of status, should be above the law, himself included.

The lawmaker had been sentenced to seven years in prison and two strokes of the cane on charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of property, and two counts of money laundering.

The court had sentenced the former Muda president to three years in prison and one stroke of the cane for CBT involving RM1 million from the Bersatu Armada funds.

He had also been sentenced to two years in prison and one stroke of the cane for misusing RM120,000 from a Maybank Islamic Bhd account belonging to Armada Bumi Bersatu Enterprise (ABBE) for personal gain.

For each money laundering charge, Syed Saddiq was sentenced to two years in prison and fined RM5 million.

Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional two years of imprisonment.

The court had ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

However, Syed Saddiq successfully applied for a stay of execution, allowing him to delay serving the sentence pending the outcome of his appeal.
