SHAH ALAM - A Bangladeshi student came under fire for a series of offensive social media posts, including allegedly spitting on the Malaysian flag and labeling local universities as a "mini Bangladesh.”
The student’s actions, which included calling for Malaysia to be bombed, triggered outrage among Malaysians and fellow Bangladeshi students alike.
According to World of Buzz, Ryan (not his real name), another Bangladeshi student, raised the issue after discovering posts by his former university mate, referred to as "Fred."
Fred, who had spent a year studying medicine at a Malaysian university before transferring to a Chinese institution, shared a series of hateful posts targeting Malaysia and its academic institutions.
In one of his Instagram stories, Fred labelled Malaysian universities as a 'mini Bangladesh,' implying that studying in Malaysia was no better than studying in his home country.
"Malaysian universities are a mini Bangladesh. The environment is so messed up.
"Bangladeshi students studying in Malaysia are low-lives who just can’t compete with students in other countries.
"Our country’s reputation in Malaysia is so bad," Fred wrote as reported by World of Buzz.
Fred worsened the situation when he reportedly posted a video of himself spitting on the Malaysian flag.
In the video, he was seen lifting the flag, spitting on it twice, and hurling profanities.
Adding to the outrage, Fred shared a screenshot of a video apparently showing Malaysian jets intercepting Chinese military planes, where he told Chinese President Xi Jinping to bomb the country.
"Xi Jinping, sir, you should have bombed the country," he posted.
The posts did not go unnoticed by the Malaysian university Fred had previously attended.
Representatives reportedly reached out to offer assistance, but Fred dismissed them, responding with further insults.
"Buzz off. Malaysian university = mini Bangladesh. Chinese university = superb international environment," he said.
Fred’s actions sparked widespread outrage among netizens, with many calling for stricter consequences for such behaviour.
Disrespecting a national flag and promoting hate speech are serious offences that could lead to legal repercussions.
