Zahid said the next Supreme Council meeting is expected to be held in January or February next year.

PUTRAJAYA - Umno has not received any applications from former members seeking to rejoin the party, said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said if there are applications, the matter will be presented at the next Umno Supreme Council meeting.

"So far, there have been no applications. If there are any, they will be brought to the Management Committee and presented to the Supreme Council," he told reporters after the monthly assembly of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development here today.

He was responding to a question on whether any former Umno members had applied to rejoin the party.

Zahid said the next Supreme Council meeting is expected to be held in January or February next year.

On Nov 25, the Supreme Council lifted the membership suspension of former Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman with immediate effect.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, in a statement issued after the Supreme Council meeting in Kuala Lumpur, said the unanimous decision was in accordance with Clauses 10.6 and 5.3 of the party constitution.

Tajuddin had been suspended for six years starting in September 2022 for openly criticising the party.

Regarding former Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan's remarks claiming that Zahid had built a narrative of being a "hero", the Deputy Prime Minister dismissed him, saying, "He is irrelevant." - BERNAMA
