For 29-year-old fitness model Pavithran Nokiah, his journey in the fitness world would not have been possible without the unwavering encouragement and understanding of his family, especially his mother.

Whether it’s sticking to a strict diet during festive celebrations or preparing for competitions, Pavithran emphasises that the role of the family is pivotal in ensuring he sticks to the rules and guidelines in making a champion.

"Everyone has cravings, especially during Deepavali or family gatherings where mutton and chicken dishes are served. But when competitions are around the corner, I have to control my mind and remain disciplined.

"This is where my family plays such an important role. They understand what I’m going through," he told Sinar Daily during an interview for a Movember special, a month dedicated to raising awareness about men’s mental and physical health.

Pushpa Narayanan, his mother, is a constant pillar of support. He said until today, she still cooks his diet meals during competition preparations, ensuring he stays on track without compromising on taste.

However, Pavithran said that the role of family extends beyond just meal preparations, their support is also crucial for anyone pursuing a gym-focused lifestyle.

He credits his family for lifting his spirits during challenging times: "Whenever I feel down or think of giving up, they are always there to support me. Their encouragement keeps me going,” he said.

Pavithran dropped a quick fitness tip for the busy men out there, especially those struggling to balance fitness and work. You just need 15 minutes to keep your body active, he said.

"For men who used to be active in the gym but can’t continue due to work, spend at least 15 minutes exercising. Set realistic goals and start small.

"Simple exercises like jumping jacks can help keep your body active and your metabolism up,” he said.

Pavithran is not just a testament to the transformative power of discipline but also an advocate for holistic well-being. His journey, deeply intertwined with family support and self-discipline, serves as an inspiration to aspiring gym enthusiasts.

"Fitness is a lifestyle, not just a hobby. It takes time, effort, and the right support system. With family by your side and a disciplined mindset, you can achieve anything,” he said.
