MENTAL health isn't just a buzzword—it’s the foundation of success in both career and competitive fitness journeys. For 29-year-old fitness model Pavithran Nokiah, it is the cornerstone of his life, helping him navigate the challenges of balancing a thriving barbering career with his passion for competitive bodybuilding. He believes that without good mental health, living the life you’ve planned is nearly impossible. "
Without a good health, especially your mental perspective, you cannot lead the life you planned. Even if you’re physically unfit, it’s your mental strength that helps you push forward.
"I believe our bodies thrive on positive energy," he said in a exclusive interview with Sinar Daily, in conjunction with Movember, a month dedicated to raising awareness about men’s mental and physical health.
Pavithran said mental health has played a crucial role in his journey to becoming a fitness model, enabling him to push through grueling training sessions and emerge victorious in competitions.
"Mental health is important in gym life. It’s what pushes you to work harder, even when your body feels like giving up.
"There are days when mood swings and emotions can take over. You might feel lazy or tempted to postpone your workout.
"But focusing on a clear goal and committing to it can make all the difference," he said.
Aside from Pavithran's fitness modelling career, he is also a full-time barber of his own barbershop.
Managing two jobs, one for passion and another for profession has taught him how manage a balanced life and schedule.
He said although also faces the challenge of managing his demanding job alongside his intense training schedule, he has managed to stay resilient throughout the years via discipline especially after his car crash.
He said it was truly a testament to his perseverance and mental fortitude since he halted his ability to participate in major sporting activities thus why he focused on bodybuilding, particularly the upper body category.
"Fitness is my passion, and barbering is my career. Balancing both wasn’t easy at first, but I’ve learned to manage my time better," he said.
