SHAH ALAM - The Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has slammed the poor management practices within Malaysian football.
He stressed the importance of financial discipline and realistic goal-setting to prevent recurring issues like salary arrears.
Highlighting poor management practices, he emphasised that the challenges faced by Malaysian football stemmed from mismanagement rather than inherent flaws in the sport itself.
"Managing a club is simple: if you have RM10, spend RM7. Improve the infrastructure a little and set realistic goals. But no, everyone promises to win trophies just to gain popularity.
"They have RM10 but spend RM15. Then, when they fail to pay salaries, from the management to the supporters, everyone blames the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), the MFL League, and JDT, the champion team.
"Everyone is to blame except themselves. Malaysian football has not failed; you have failed," he said in an Instagram Story.
This statement followed Tunku Ismail's earlier remarks on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page, where he criticised the notion that Malaysian football was a failure due to ongoing challenges.
He argued that the real issue lay with unqualified individuals managing the sport.
