Woman crushed to death by container: Trailer driver flashes 'peace' sign as he enters court

A trailer driver whose container fell in an accident that led to the death of a woman on Jalan Kebun Sireh, Bukit Tengah had flashed a "peace" as he arrived at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate's court, today.

The 51-year-old suspect was remanded for four days from today until Nov 17 to facilitate the police in the investigation into the case.

The 51-year-old suspect who arrived at 8.20am was remanded for four days from today until Nov 17 to facilitate the police in the investigation into the case.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan.

It was reported that a woman died while a man was injured after being crushed by a container carried by a trailer in an incident on Jalan Bukit Tengah at 9.30am, yesterday (Wednesday).

The incident involved four other vehicles which were a Perodua Bezza, Toyota Altis, Honda Jazz and a three-tonne lorry.

Bandar Perda Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Nor Azamuddin Abdullah said the victim identified as Lee Zi Rou, 21, who was driving the Perodua Bezza, died at the scene after being trapped in her vehicle.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Honda Jazz, identified as Tan Chou Theng, 25, was injured after being trapped in the driver's side.

Following the incident, the police arrested the trailer driver to assist in the investigation.

The driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
