SHAH ALAM - Netflix has unexpectedly raised subscription prices for all tiers in Malaysia, with the new rates.
It was reported that the Mobile plan, which supported streaming on one device at 480p resolution has increased from RM17 to RM18.90.
The price for the Basic plan, with 720p streaming on a single device, increased from RM28 to RM29.90.
Meanwhile, the price for the Standard plan with 1080p on two devices, has increased to RM49.90 from RM45.
The Premium Plan experienced the most significant hike from RM55 to RM62.90, with 4K streaming for up to four devices.
It was also reported that despite the price hikes, there were no other changes in terms of the benefits included in each subscription tier.
This meant that users would pay more for the same streaming quality, device allowances and content access as before.
The revised prices would also affect services that included Netflix in their bundle packages like on Astro and Unifi TV.
Customers who subscribed through these platforms could see the adjusted rates as these providers typically mirror Netflix’s subscription costs in their offerings.
According to reports, Astro would be increasing its package prices as well, with existing customers with Netflix bundled in its plans seeing the hike starting March 1, next year.
