Teenage Chinese national found dead in private school's carpark

The teenager whose disappearance circulated on social media was identified as Qiu Xiangming, a student at a prominent school in Kuala Lumpur.

SHAH ALAM - The body of an 18-year-old Chinese national was found in the parking lot of an international school in Jalan Duta Kiara, Taman Sri Hartamas on Nov 9 (Saturday).

The teenager whose disappearance circulated on social media was identified as Qiu Xiangming, a student at a prominent private school in Kuala Lumpur.

A missing person notice was posted on social media by his friends after one of them noticed that he was missing since the early hours of Saturday.

It was reported that before the discovery of his body, Qiu was last seen with a friend playing badminton in the area hours before the incident.

The deceased had mentioned that he wanted to go for "a drink."

The friend's father who wished to remain anonymous said Qiu told his son that he needed some time to "relax."

The man said his son had also advised the deceased to return home early.

Qiu, who went for a drink alone was last spotted at Solaris Mont Kiara around 2am on Saturday.

As hours passed, without any communication from him, concerns grew and a missing person’s report was lodged that day at about 4pm.

The police then confirmed that the young man who died in the parking lot in Taman Sri Hartamas was Qiu.

On Saturday morning, news of Qiu's death reached his family in China.

His mother and sister immediately boarded separate flights to Malaysia, arriving the same day to complete the necessary formalities.

On Monday (Nov 11), the grief-stricken family visited the hospital morgue in the company of close friends, visibly sorrowful as they attended to the administrative procedures.

A statement on the matter is expected to be issued by the Kuala Lumpur police after a post-mortem is conducted to determine the cause of death.
