KUALA LUMPUR - The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has yet to enforce resolutions that support Palestinian rights, leaving the recent legislation passed by the Israeli Parliament banning UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees' (UNRWA) activities in occupied Palestinian Territories unchallenged despite violation of international law.
Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali has renewed his call for justice, condemning the absence of effective measures from global authorities to stop the ongoing suffering of Palestinians who were facing relentless attacks from Israel.
"Unfortunately, the UNSC failed to implement any of the resolutions which were taken in favour of Palestine and the Palestinians," he said when met at the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Taman U Thant, here.
He urged the UN to act swiftly and address the recent Israeli legislation, emphasising the need for the international community to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing violations of international law.
Walid pointed out that for more than one year the Israeli strikes have relentlessly targeted innocent Palestinians in Gaza, causing thousands of victims as a result of the ongoing genocide and massacres in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and East Jerusalem.
He emphasised that the international community has failed to intervene in what he described as a genocide, pointing out the inconsistency in global responses.
While the international community quickly imposed sanctions on Russia for its actions against Ukraine, similar measures have not been taken against Israel for its treatment of Palestinians.
Walid stressed the need for the same level of seriousness and action from the global powers to hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law.
"If the international community was able to take action against Russia and Ukraine. Why can't they do the same thing against Israel in Palestine?," he added.
He said despite their loud calls for justice and the overwhelming global support for Palestine, the questions remain unanswered.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Zionist regime continued its actions unchecked, operating with the belief that they were above human rights and international law.
Walid added the dire situation in Gaza, where 2.3 million Palestinians were enduring severe hardships that required immediate attention.
He highlighted the urgency of securing a ceasefire to end the ongoing violence, as well as the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to provide essential services such as food, water and healthcare to the people in Gaza.
He added with more than 85 per cent of Gaza’s residential buildings destroyed or damaged and 1.9 million Palestinians displaced, many are now living in tents and vulnerable to further attacks.
"Palestine and the Palestinians have been under Israeli fire for the last almost 13 months.
"When can the international community be serious in taking an action against Israel to stop this massacre and to stop this genocide?," he said.
Walid said the time has to come for decisive action in order to stop this massacre and hold Israel accountable for its crimes.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 44,000 Palestinians have been killed in ongoing Israeli attacks including more than 16,765 children and thousands more are buried under rubble and threatened by illness.
