GISBH: Special team formed to assess well-being of children rescued

A special team has been established to conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments of the physical, mental and emotional health of children rescued from the GISBH charity homes in Selangor, as well as their adherence to the group’s ideology.

The decision to form this team was made during a workshop focused on the rehabilitation of children linked to GISBH, held on Oct 17 and 18.

SHAH ALAM - A special team has been established to conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments of the physical, mental and emotional health of children rescued from the GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) charity homes in Selangor, as well as their adherence to the group’s ideology.

State Islamic Affairs and Innovation Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the decision to form this team was made during a workshop focused on the rehabilitation of children linked to GISBH, held on Oct 17 and 18.

He said the initial findings from these assessments will be presented to him by the team in mid-November.

"This initiative aims to ensure that the existing rehabilitation curriculum is tailored to meet the specific needs of these children based on their age,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Fahmi added that the Selangor government will collaborate with the Penang state government and the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) to manage the GISBH children from Selangor who are placed in protective homes in Penang.

He said the state government is open to collaboration and support from various parties, both in terms of expertise and funding, to assist in the children’s rehabilitation.

"These children can become valuable members of the community if they receive the right education and care,” he added.

On Oct 8, Mohammad Fahmi announced the establishment of a special team by the Selangor government to prepare a rehabilitation programme specifically for children rescued from GISBH homes in the state.

Police launched Op Global in early September and mounted raids on charity homes linked to GISBH across Peninsular Malaysia suspected of being involved in child and religious exploitation.

As a result of these operations, 572 victims were rescued, and 359 GISBH followers, including its top management, were detained. - BERNAMA
