JERLUN - An elderly resident in Kampung Matang Bonglai Kechil, Ayer Hitam, did not expect his decision to place two of his cars on the concrete roof of his house would go viral on social media.
Awang Ali Abdullah, 64, said he had lifted a Proton Saga and a Perodua Kancil onto the roof using a crane since Thursday, as he had no parking space available.
He made the decision to do this to make way for the installation of a tent for his grandniece Shahira Zamzuri’s wedding on Saturday.
"I used a crane to lift the Perodua Kancil and Proton Saga with the help of my nieces and nephews, and we managed to get them up in about 30 minutes.
"I didn’t expect someone to record a video, and it went viral, attracting many people to come and take pictures," he told reporters on Sunday.
Awang expressed his gratitude that the wedding was lively, with over 1,500 guests attending and many took the opportunity to capture photos with the two cars on the roof as a backdrop.
He added that both cars, which he has used for the past 10 years, were still in good condition, but he would not be taking them down from the roof for now.
"I will leave them there for about a week or two to give local residents a chance to take photos," he said.
Meanwhile, Shahira mentioned that she was too busy and only learned about her uncle's decision to put the Proton Saga and Perodua Kancil on the roof on Friday.
She noted that many guests informed her that their house had gone viral due to the cars parked on the roof and she felt proud of the positive reactions it received.
