SHAH ALAM - Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's apology regarding the misused of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds is not a statement seeking sympathy, but rather an act of great humility.
Umno vice president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said that the efforts made by the former Pekan Member of Parliament clearly demonstrate his sense of responsibility.
"I have reviewed the press statement issued by Datuk Seri Najib dated Oct 24, 2024. I can feel that the statement was made sincerely and comes from his heartfelt honesty.
"I believe that the press statement also clarifies that Datuk Seri Najib, throughout his time as Prime Minister, always thought of what was best for the people.
"To the extent that some irresponsible individuals took advantage of his concern for the welfare of the people," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Najib issued a public apology to Malaysians through a statement by his eldest son, Datuk Mohamad Nizar, in a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex on Thursday.
This was in relation to the misconduct that occurred in 1MDB, particularly during his tenure as the finance minister.
Wan Rosdy, who is also the Menteri Besar Pahang expressed hope that Najib would be granted proper justice.
"I also pray and hope that the Pekan Member of Parliament will be released and that true justice will be served by bringing the 1MDB case to trial," he said.
