SEREMBAN - For many, losing their sight would be an unimaginable challenge, but for 29-year-old Mohd Imran Abdullah, it became a turning point in his life.

After a tragic hit-and-run accident at 17 left him permanently blind, Imran faced years of emotional and physical struggles.

However, he is thriving today, running a successful massage business, and finding peace in his condition.

Imran is proud to be able to rent a shop to run his massage services.

Following the accident that left him in a month-long coma, doctors informed Imran that the nerves in his eyes were irreparably damaged.

The news devastated him, but after three years of isolation and self-reflection, he found the strength to rebuild his life.

Supported by family, friends and teachers, Imran embraced a new path.

"During that time, I cried a lot and was afraid to continue living. But I was motivated after receiving support from my family, friends and teachers,” he said.

Imran enrolled in a vocational course at a special education school, where he learned massage therapy.

Imran receives at least 10 customers a day.

He then started his career as a street masseur before opening a kiosk and later securing his own shop in Lavender Height, Senawang.

His journey, however, was not without challenges.

He shared that he once had a customer who paid him for his services with blank pieces of paper, something he only realised after a friend pointed it out. But despite such setbacks, Imran never lost hope.

"To reach this level, I faced many challenges, including being cheated by my own friend.

"Some customers also made negative remarks, saying that I would never succeed, but that never once dampened my spirit to be independent and pursue my dreams,” he added.

Perhaps the most striking part was Imran's decision to decline an eye donation offer.

"There were people who wanted to donate their eyes to me, but I prefer to stay as I am. Even though Allah has not returned my sight, he has blessed me in other ways, such as giving me many good friends.

"If I could see, perhaps I would not have these friendships and would just keep to myself,” he said.

Now, with at least 10 customers daily, Imran's massage services have gained popularity, offering body, shoulder, head and foot massages, with prices ranging from RM30 to RM80.

Customers are encouraged to book in advance to secure an appointment.

He advised others in similar situations to never give up and to keep striving.
