KUALA TERENGGANU – The woman involved in a crash that killed three Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun Campus students last Wednesday has no record of receiving mental health treatment in Terengganu.
Terengganu State Health Department director Datuk Dr Kasemani Embong said a review found that there was no record of the woman receiving mental health treatment at any state health facility to date.
"However, we are unsure whether the woman may have received mental health treatment in other states," he said when contacted on Friday.
In addition, Dr Kasemani advised any family members with individuals who suffered from mental health issues to step forward and seek further treatment.
"Do not be ashamed to seek mental health treatment. Our society also needs to change its perception regarding mental illness.
"We should also provide support for those seeking the appropriate treatment so they can improve in the future," he explained.
Previously, the media reported that the woman who crashed into two motorcycles, causing the deaths of three UiTM Dungun Campus students, was remanded for four days starting Thursday.
The housewife, who has three children and was believed to be suffering from mental health issues, arrived at the Kuala Terengganu Court Complex at 9am on Thursday, appearing disoriented.
In the 7.35 pm incident, three UiTM Dungun Campus students were killed, while another friend was seriously injured after two motorcycles they were riding were hit by the suspect driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on Jalan Pantai, in front of UiTM Dungun.
The three victims who died were Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, from Muar, Johor; Ku Adib Ku Azmi, 20, from Sungai Buloh, Selangor; and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20, from Ampang, Selangor.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Amar Danish Mohammad Ridhuan, 20, from Kuala Lumpur, sustained is being treated at Dungun Hospital.
