SHAH ALAM - The Lebuhraya Kajang-Seremban (Lekas) will be temporarily closed from 5pm Saturday until 4am Sunday to accommodate the annual RHB Lekas Highway Ride 2024.
This marks the ninth edition of the popular night cycling event, which would see 6,500 participants taking part.
Lekas Chief Executive Officer Wan Salwani Wan Yusoff said that the necessary approvals for the event had been secured.
"Lekas has obtained the necessary approvals from the Works Ministry and the Malaysian Highway Authority to be the venue sponsor, the police for the traffic management plan on the total road closure for the event and the Malaysian Sports Commissioner to organise this cycling event," she said.
With the full road closure, it was projected that the highway would see a temporary traffic loss of approximately 70,000 vehicles.
The closure would affect a total of nine interchanges and 20 entry and exit points, stretching from the Kajang Selatan Interchange to the Paroi Junction.
This aimed at ensuring a smooth and safe ride for all cyclists.
"We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the police for their cooperation and support by providing officers from Kajang, Semenyih, Nilai, Mantin and Seremban to assist with the road closure,” she said, adding that alternative routes had been designated for road users affected by the closure.
Northbound and southbound travellers coming from Kuala Lumpur, Cheras, Kajang, Seremban, Senawang and Kuala Pilah were advised to use Federal Route 1 or the Plus Highway to continue their journey.
In addition, road users were urged to follow all traffic safety regulations during the closure period.
