School bus catches fire, at least 10 killed

The bus, which was carrying 38 students and six teachers was on a field trip to Bangkok when the incident occurred.

BANGKOK - A double-decker bus carrying teachers and students from Uthai Thani province in northern Thailand caught fire on Tuesday afternoon, killing at least 10 of them.

The Thai PBS World reported that the bus, which was carrying 38 students and six teachers from the Wat Khao Phraya School in Lan Sak district, was on a field trip to Bangkok when the incident occurred in Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said she had ordered ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Juangroongruangkit, and Deputy Minister of Interior, Sabida Thaiset, to visit the site.

"I have been informed about the bus fire involving students from Uthai Thani on a field trip to Bangkok, which tragically resulted in fatalities and injuries.

"As a mother, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of the injured and deceased," she said on her official X account on Tuesday.

As of press time, the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed.
