SHAH ALAM - Barisan Nasional (BN) unofficially secured a decisive victory in the Mahkota by-election, reinforcing its hold on the Johor state seat with a significant lead over Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Umno Secretary-General Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki expressed immense pride as BN claimed the win in the by-election.
He took to his Facebook account to announce BN's impressive performance.
"Alhamdulillah, BN successfully passed the minimum threshold! Out of 83 polling streams, BN secured 19,463 votes with a majority of 14,509," he said.
The win sees BN candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah defeating PN's Mohamad Haizan Jaafar by a wide margin, cementing BN's dominance in the constituency.
Early unofficial results indicated Syed Hussien leading by more than 14,000 votes, with PN trailing significantly behind.
BN’s victory in Mahkota comes as a major boost for the coalition, which has successfully defended its stronghold in Johor, a state where BN has historically had significant support.
The Mahkota seat had only slipped from BN's grasp once, during the 2018 General Election when Pakatan Harapan (PH) claimed victory.
However, the seat was regained by Umno in the 2022 State Election, with Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain securing it before her passing on Aug 2.
