KLUANG - A Singapore-based worker was left disappointed after missing his chance to vote in the Mahkota state by-election as he arrived just one minute after the voting process closed at 6pm.
G. Vijayan, 41, who works as a postman said traffic congestion and heavy rain caused his journey from Singapore to Kluang to be delayed.
He said he managed to enter the polling centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Perdana here, but it was already past 6pm when his name was checked for voting.
"I rushed back from Singapore to vote after finishing work. However, I got stuck in heavy traffic on the highway during my journey home due to the heavy rain.
"I’m disappointed because I genuinely wanted to vote in this by-election, but there was no chance today," he told reporters outside SMK Seri Perdana on, today.
The voting process for the Mahkota by-election at 20 polling centres officially ended at 6pm.
As of 4pm, the Election Commission (EC) reported a voter turnout of around 47 per cent, with the official percentage to be announced by the commission, tonight.
