BN’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah is said to have secured 3,119 votes.

KLUANG - Barisan Nasional (BN) has taken an early lead in the Mahkota by-election, according to unofficial results and based on early voting.

BN’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah is said to have secured 3,119 votes, ahead of his Perikatan Nasional (PN) rival, Haizan Jaafar, who has only garnered 1,088 ballots.

Meanwhile, PN recorded only 1,088 votes, highlighting a significant gap between the two parties.

The early votes were primarily collected from the Mahkota military camp, one of the largest voting locations in Johor.

Weather conditions earlier in the day might have impacted voter turnout. Heavy rain began around 4pm, potentially discouraging some voters from participating in the by-election.

The official results were expected to be announced by the Election Commission (EC) at 9pm today.
