KLUANG - Johor DAP leaders remained tight-lipped about speculation surrounding Liew Chin Tong’s decision to step down as the party's state chief ahead of the upcoming state committee election.
With the state party election drawing near, key party figures were evasive when asked about the potential leadership transition.
When contacted, Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi offered no substantial remarks when approached, saying no comments.
"No comments from me, I cannot say anything on behalf of him.
"At the end, whatever decision will come from him, so better ask him directly," the DAP lawmaker told Sinar Daily when contacted.
Similarly, Johor DAP vice chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali was equally non-committal, simply stating to discuss further in the state committee election.
"Let's see on the day of the election of the state committee on Oct 6," he added.
Earlier, it was reported that Liew was expected to step down as Johor DAP chief, expressing his intention to pass the baton.
However, it remained unclear whether Liew planned to contest for a position within the state committee or if his decision to step down was final.
As the Oct 6 election approached, party members and political observers were eager to see how the leadership transition would unfold and whether Liew would continue to play an active role within Johor DAP.
