SHAH ALAM – Islamic authorities must take a proactive approach to detect and eliminate deviant movements and teachings that are actively spreading in the country.
Multaqa Asatizah and Du’at Malaysia (Murshid) deputy president Amin Idris said that the case involving GISBH Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) should serve as a ‘wake-up call’ or warning bell to the responsible authorities, highlighting the presence of well-organised and widespread deviant teachings.
"How have they been able to operate freely for years? This is something for the religious authorities to reflect upon and we cannot ignore the efforts they have made over time.
"Deviant movements like Sihulk, Ahmadi and various misguided tariqas are actively spreading, particularly on TikTok, in their attempt to lead the ummah in Malaysia astray,” he said.
Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the government takes any matters seriously affecting the faith and religious practices of Muslims in Malaysia.
Amin, who is also an independent preacher, expressed hope that there would be no double standards, especially when these deviant teachings bear similarities to the beliefs held by certain segments of society.
He shared his personal experience of being invited to a private dialogue by a group of anti-hadith followers some time ago.
"I was also once invited to dinner with Abuya (the founder of Al-Arqam Ashaari Muhammad) during my time as a student leader in 2000.
"I witnessed first-hand the blind devotion of his followers, who even drank the water used to wash Abuya’s hands.
"Therefore, any investigation into the offenders must be conducted transparently, without being influenced by political sentiments,” he said.
