KLUANG - Corn in a cup vendor Hasrin Masnawi, 55, continues to sell his signature snack, mixed with butter and condensed milk, at RM2 per cup, at the same price when he first started his business 24 years ago.

Hasrin said he sells around 600 cups daily, generating a decent profit that has helped supplement his income to raise his five children.

"Although the profit margin isn't large, I’m happy because more people can enjoy this snack. Many have become regular customers. Also, I see this as a way to give back,” he said when met at his stall on Jalan Dato Tan Seng Leong today.

Hasrin explained that he starts preparing to open his stall at 6.30 pm every day with supplies sourced from nearby supermarkets, as he works a full-time job in the mornings.

Previously, he managed the stall on his own, but due to the growing number of customers, especially with the Mahkota state legislative by-election underway, Hasrin recently hired an assistant.

Meanwhile, Kluang native Nor Azhani Mohamad Yusof, 35, noted that not only has the price remained unchanged, but the taste and portion of the boiled corn have also stayed consistent since she first bought it when the stall opened.

"This cup of boiled corn is a must-have snack every time I come home. It's not just me-my whole family loves it. Even though we’ve had it elsewhere, the experience of eating it here is different,” said Nor Azhani, who now lives in Jerantut, Pahang.

Another customer, Sadik Sani, 31, who works in Kuala Lumpur, said he always visits the stall when in Kluang to satisfy his craving for the perfectly salty, sweet, and creamy corn.

"This cup of boiled corn tastes best when eaten hot. Brother Hasrin is also very efficient. Even with many customers, we don’t have to wait long for our orders, despite him working alone,” he said. - BERNAMA
