KLUANG - About 57 per cent of police personnel and officers have cast their votes in the Mahkota state by-election, today.
Johor police Datuk chief M. Kumar said as of 10.30am, 217 police personnel and officers out of the 383 eligible voters had fulfilled their duty.
"A total of 217 voters (police force) or about 57 per cent have cast their votes and the process has been running smoothly without any untoward incidents," he said in a press conference at the polling station at Dewan Pengaman Zamrud, here.
He also advised voters to go out early to vote as the weather was unpredictable and to avoid the rain.
He said the candidates and supporters have provided full cooperation to the police during the early voting process.
The level of compliance and civility, he said was a testament to the maturity of the supporters and Johor community.
"I want to put on record that the supporters and candidates involved have fully cooperated with the police and no unwanted incidents have been reported.
"This reflects the maturity of the supporters and candidates and it also reflects the maturity of the Johor people," he said.
He urged all parties to continue cooperating with the police to ensure the election process proceeded without disruption, stressing the importance of safeguarding the democratic process.
Commenting on the postal votes, Kumar said five out of the 18 votes were still pending and urged those who have yet to submit their ballots to do so by Sept 27.
"A total of 18 police are registered for postal voting. So far, we have received 13 votes. I advise the remaining five to submit their votes before 4pm on Sept 27," he said.
The Johor police have deployed 810 personnel to ensure the safety and smooth execution of the election process.
Police personnel and officers have began gathering at Dewan Pengaman Zamrud, here, as early as 7.30am to vote in the Mahkota by-election.
A total of 4,911 early voters, including 4,510 soldiers and their spouses, as well as the police, are expected to cast their votes today.
