PN's Kluang operations chief also alleged that government resources were used to support the programme, with civil servants mobilised to ensure its success.

KLUANG - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has accused the 'Jom Orang Mahkota' tour, led by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi of violating the Election Offences Act and has called on authorities to investigate these claims.

PN Kluang operations chief (Gerak Gempur), Shazni Sulaiman argued that the programme, which offered attractive deals to Mahkota residents ahead of the by-election next Saturday, could be viewed as an attempt to bribe voters.

He also alleged that government resources were used to support the programme, with civil servants mobilised to ensure its success.

Shazni further stated that Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah was actively involved in the programme alongside Onn Hafiz, describing it as a clear election campaign.

"Millions of public funds have been wasted on BN’s campaign, disguised as the 'Jelajah Orang Mahkota' programme.

"Eighteen activities were held over two days, funded by public money through various government agencies, including local authorities, the state government, and the Federal Government," he said.

Shazni made these comments during a press conference following a police report lodged at the Kluang district police headquarters.

He was accompanied by Bersatu Information Bureau Committee Member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Che’gu Bard.

Badrul Hisham criticised BN’s campaign tactics, accusing them of attempting to sway voters in Mahkota with prize giveaways and celebrity performances.

He argued that these tactics fail to address the real concerns of Mahkota residents, who are dealing with issues like frequent flooding, outdated public infrastructure, and the lack of job and education opportunities for young people.

He also questioned the silence of the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih), accusing them of overlooking BN’s alleged election violations.

"In addition to the police report, we are considering filing complaints with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Election Commission (EC) to ensure a proper investigation into this alleged voter bribery," he added.

The Mahkota by-election, held following the death of incumbent Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2, is a straight fight between BN candidate Syed Hussein and PN candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Sept 28 as polling day, while early voting takes place on Sept 24.
