KLUANG - DAP's Teo Nie Ching has called for an end to racial politics, stressing that Malaysians want a government focused on addressing economic and cost-of-living issues.
Speaking at a 'Ceramah Perpaduan' last night, the Communications Deputy Minister said that the public is increasingly frustrated with divisive political tactics.
As the Mahkota by-election approaches, Teo emphasised that the priority for voters is economic stability and effective measures to tackle the rising cost of living.
"We want to help Umno defend the Mahkota seat to send a clear message to Perikatan Nasional that the people are tired of racial politics and politics that incite hatred and animosity," she said.
Teo highlighted the need for a new era of politics in Malaysia, one that prioritises bread-and-butter issues over divisive rhetoric.
Teo believed that her remarks reflected growing concerns among voters, especially in constituencies like Mahkota, where residents are grappling with rising inflation and economic uncertainty.
"The people want to choose a government that supports political parties focused on economic challenges and the cost of living," she said.
Teo also pointed out that the upcoming election offers an opportunity for the electorate to reject the racial narratives often propagated by certain factions.
"This is the new politics that the people want, and we aim to send this message to Perikatan Nasional; never again should you resort to racial or religious issues to disrupt harmony in our diverse society," she added.
Earlier, while addressing the local Chinese community, Teo said DAP’s support for the BN candidate from Umno is a gesture of gratitude for Umno’s efforts in helping DAP candidate Pang Sock Tao secure victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election in May.
The Mahkota by-election, held following the death of incumbent Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2, is a straight fight between BN candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan Nasional candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.
