SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) claims that voters in the Mahkota state assembly are growing increasingly weary of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) recurring political strategy of making empty promises during election periods.
Johor Bersatu secretary, Muhammad Syafiq Aziz said complaints from Chinese associations, who expressed dissatisfaction over the pattern of aid being provided only during elections, with little to no follow-through once BN wins.
He stated that voters in Mahkota are becoming more aware of this issue.
"Chinese associations have shared their frustrations, noting that political' goodies' are offered every time there’s an election.
"Many Chinese voters feel betrayed, especially on economic matters, which have driven some to seek employment in Singapore.
"BN promised job creation. If you visit Mahkota now, you’ll see roads being paved around the clock, and local rice being distributed.
"However, I believe voters are becoming more discerning," he said.
Syafiq made these comments during the 456th edition of Wacana Sinar titled Biru Apa Warna Mahkota?, held at the Karangkraf Complex on Wednesday.
The programme, hosted by Ismail Adnan, also featured UiTM Political Science senior lecturer, Mujibu Ab Muis and Johor Umno Youth chief, Noor Azleen Ambros.
In a related matter, Syafiq added that, in contrast to BN, PN has fielded a candidate with proven leadership experience and a strong commitment to community involvement.
"Fighting for the people is not only the duty of government representatives but also of the Opposition. Government agencies have specific allocations to address public needs.
"However, we hope these agencies do not discriminate, regardless of whether they are dealing with government or opposition assemblymen, as both sides are working to help the people," he added.
