SHAH ALAM – Langkawi remains a more affordable tourist destination compared to Phuket and Bali according to Niagakawi Langkawi Association advisor Datuk Alexander Isaac.
Alexander dismissed claims that travelling to Thailand is cheaper due to its food and accommodation.
"It's hard to compare (prices) with Hatyai... but if we compare it with Phuket or Bali, we're cheaper.
"The perception that Langkawi is expensive is incorrect.
"In fact, it is quite affordable, depending on whether you choose a five-star hotel or budget accommodation," he told Sinar on Wednesday.
He also responded to calls for a boycott of local tourism to improve service quality, stating that such actions are unnecessary and would have little impact.
"Despite recent bad weather causing ferry delays and cancellations, Pulau Langkawi remains a popular tourist destination, with resorts and accommodations remaining full even during inclement weather," he said.
Alexander urged the government to pay attention to the island's main transportation route, which is heavily reliant on ferry services.
