Azmin said Umno could become even more "arrogant" if Barisan Nasional candidate, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah wins the seat on Sept 28.

KLUANG - Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has called on Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to form a unity government in the state if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the Mahkota by-election.

Azmin, who is also PN’s Mahkota by-election director, said Umno could become even more "arrogant" if Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah wins the seat on Sept 28.

"It’s peculiar in Johor. Is there truly a unity government? They claim to have one at the federal level, so why not in Johor?

"If BN retains the Mahkota seat, will he form a unity government like at the federal level? Is he bold enough? I’m asking respectfully,” Azmin said during a ceramah yesterday.

Johor's state government is currently led by BN, holding 39 seats in the assembly, alongside Pakatan Harapan’s 12 seats.

However, unlike at the federal level, the two coalitions have not officially formed an alliance in the state.

Azmin also raised concerns over dissatisfaction among Amanah members, particularly regarding their exclusion from key roles such as village heads. He urged his PKR and Amanah colleagues to reconsider their support for a party that, he claimed, shows little regard for them.

The Mahkota by-election, held following the death of incumbent Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2, is a straight fight between Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and PN candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.
