KOTA BHARU - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has agreed to field a representative from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as a candidate for the Mahkota by-election on Sept 28.
PN chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said for now, they have yet to decide on the candidate to contest.
He said the decision was expected to be made during a meeting before the Pas Muktamar on Sept 14.
"PN Mahkota by-election director Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will make the announcement.
"We will wait and see who the candidate is," he said.
The Mahkota by-election is being held following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 64, on Aug 2.
The Election Commission (EC) has set the voting day for the Mahkota by-election on Sept 28, while the nomination and early voting days were scheduled for Sept 14 and 24, respectively.
In another development, Takiyuddin, who is also the Pas secretary-general said an important motion in this year's Pas Muktamar was to amend and update the party's Constitution.
"We will also discuss about the victory in the upcoming elections, depending on efforts, including support from the people," he said.
He explained that the Pas Muktamar, which will be attended by 1,400 delegates from across the country will begin with the Dewan Pemuda Muktamar on Sept 11 and 12, while Sept 13 will be the Muslimat Muktamar.
The Pas Muktamar, he said will be held on Sept 14 and 15.
Takiyuddin also said the Kerdau state constituency in Pahang was chosen this year due to Pas’ strong composition in Pahang.
"We took into account PN's strength in the state, where they won 17 seats in the last General Election," he said.
