Quran a symbol of unity for global Muslim community - Emir Salim

He said the challenges faced by the Muslim community worldwide are increasingly difficult, so by reading and understanding the context of each holy verse, it will further strengthen the existing unity.

PUTRAJAYA - The teachings of Surah al-Jumu'ah and al-Hujurat during the month of the country's independence should be embraced by all levels of society to strengthen national unity and racial harmony in the country.

Turkiye's ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yükse said the Quran should be the foundation for empowering the unity of Muslims in facing various challenges.

He said the meaning of freedom was not just expressed verbally but must be filled with spiritual elements.

"The Quran is indeed a symbol of unity for the global Muslim community and all Muslims must internalise its teachings to ensure that the knowledge imparted is applied in their lives.

He said this during the Malaysia #Quranhour programme held at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque in Putrajaya, today.

The event was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Yayasan Warisan Ummah Ikhlas (WUIF) founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub.

The programme themed "Merdeka Spirit: Deciphering the Rukun Negara" was guided by Surah al-Jumu'ah and al-Hujurat.

Further commenting, Emir said that Quran recitation programmes in conjunction with the National Day should be held annually.

He added that Islam should be regarded as a way of life that could not be separated from social aspects.

"A free soul should be understood through brotherhood and devotion to Allah SWT," he said.
