KUALA LUMPUR - The 2024 Umno General Assembly received a total of 171 motions from 191 divisions after 17,988 branches successfully concluded their meetings.

Its Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that out of the 171 motions, 72 demanded justice and a full pardon for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said that as long as Najib remained behind bars, the party's voice and efforts would never cease.

"The highest number of motions from 72 divisions is for us to continue demanding justice and a full pardon for ‘Bossku’ (Najib).

"Indeed, as long as Bossku is behind bars, Umno's voice and efforts will never stop. In fact, we should place full trust and confidence in the top leadership.

"I urge that we continue to pray because prayer is our weapon. May Allah soften hearts and open the way for Najib's eventual release according to the Federal Constitution," he said during his opening speech at the Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) on today.

Najib was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and fined RM210 million after being found guilty of seven charges of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, and money laundering involving RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd (SRC).

In February, Najib was granted a 50 per cent reduction for his 12-year prison sentence, which he had served since 2022, which meant that the former Prime Minister is expected to be released on Aug 23, 2028.

Meanwhile, Asyraf Wajdi said that the party is drawing strength from all sources and the discipline of its leaders to prepare for the upcoming by-election in the Mahkota by-election next month.

He noted that the by-election will be followed by state elections in four states each year consecutively.

"In reality, we have been tested and will continue to be tested. However, believe that Allah still loves us. Be assured, there is light at the end of the tunnel," he added.
