SHAH ALAM - Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expresses his gratitude to the voters in Nenggiri for renewing their trust in the coalition to serve the people in the state legislative assembly.
In his Facebook post, he also thanked BN's Nenggiri by-election director Tan Sri Razaleigh Hamzah, operations director Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, the coalition's machinery and party machinery under the unity government who had worked tirelessly in ensuring victory of BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani.
Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister said the trust given to BN was both a mandate and a significant responsibility that they will carry out to the best of their ability.
"There is no greater expression I can convey other than that it is You, Allah, who has granted us this power.
"With this mandate, we celebrate with humility, knowing that the journey ahead is long and our efforts to restore the people’s confidence in Umno and BN will continue.
"May this success serve as a catalyst for even greater achievements in the future. Thank you, Nenggiri," he wrote.
The Nenggiri state by-election saw a one-on-one fight between BN candidate Azmawi or better known as Awie and Pas candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail representing Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Azmawi who is also Kelantan Umno youth chief polled 9,091 votes to beat Rizwadi who obtained 5,739 votes.
The results were announced by returning officer Nik Raisnan Daud at the vote-tallying centre at Dewan Perdana, Kompleks Perdana, Gua Musang District Council, tonight.
BN held the seat for four consecutive terms after it was first contested in 2004 but lost it to PN's Mohd Azizi Abu Naim in the Kelantan state election in August last year.
Azizi, who contested under the Pas ticket defeated BN's Ab Aziz Yusoff by a majority of 810 votes then.
