PUTRAJAYA - Malaysian citizens are advised to defer all travels to Bangladesh due to the volatile situation in the country, says the Foreign Ministry.
In a statement, the ministry said it is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh through the High Commission of Malaysia in Dhaka.
"The ministry also takes note of the formation of Bangladesh’s interim government to ensure the continuous operation of public administration.
"Malaysian citizens residing in Bangladesh are urged to register their presence with the High Commission of Malaysia in Dhaka, as well as to remain vigilant, stay away from conflict areas and follow the instructions of the local authorities,” the statement read.
The Foreign Ministry said it will strive to keep the public informed of any recent developments.

The media reported that more than 200 people had been killed in protests that began as a movement against job quotas in government position mid-July. The protests evolved into a campaign that ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Monday, Hasina fled the country amid growing calls for her resignation following mass demonstrations against her government.
Anadolu Agency reported that Bangladesh’s lone Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus will serve as the head of the country’s transitional government following Hasina’s abrupt resignation. - BERNAMA
