The Israeli military began bombarding Khan Yunis early on Monday, catching some families still eating their breakfasts and forcing thousands of Palestinians to flee a designated "humanitarian area" now under evacuation orders.

Israel's military said it had "adjusted" the humanitarian zone following rocket fire from its eastern part, and warned it would be dangerous to remain there.
