Child abduction: Fifth suspect remanded for seven days

The fifth suspect in the kidnapping case of a girl was brought to the Magistrate's Court in Johor Bahru on Tuesday to be remanded for seven days.

Earlier, the suspect, wearing a Johor Bon Odori Festival T-shirt, arrived at the court premises at 3pm.

JOHOR BAHRU - Another suspect arrested in connection with the abduction of a young girl who was reported missing at Eco Galleria Mall in Iskandar Puteri on Saturday has been remanded for seven days.

The remand order for the 31-year-old male suspect was issued by the Magistrate's Court here from Tuesday until Monday.

The remand order for the fifth suspect in the case was issued by Magistrate Muhammad Fitri Mokhtar after allowing police's application.

The remand period is to enable further investigations into the suspect under Section 365 of the Penal Code.

Earlier, the suspect, wearing a Johor Bon Odori Festival T-shirt, arrived at the court premises at 3pm.

In the morning, four suspects, comprising two men and two women aged between 28 and 55, were brought to the Magistrate's Court here and received a four-day remand order.

On Monday, three suspects—two men and one woman—were arrested at 1.30pm in the Gelang Patah area, Iskandar Puteri.

Following this, another woman was arrested at 12.15am on Tuesday before the fifth suspect was detained at 4.45am on Tuesday in Batang Kali, Selangor.

The fifth suspect was detained along with the young girl in a budget hotel in a safe condition.

Earlier, Albertine Leo Jia Hui, 6, the third of four siblings, was missing at about 8.30pm at the incident location.

From Friday to Sunday, the shopping mall hosted the Johor Bon Odori Festival, which saw the area crowded with visitors.

The child's disappearance went viral on social media, leading to various speculations and rumors, including reports of her being seen with a man at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) here, allegedly attempting to enter Singapore.
